QUERY SEVENTY-TWO

CHAMBLIN—Wanted: further information regarding the ancestral lines and descendants of George Chamblin who was born —— 1748, and died in Bourbon Co., Kentucky on Sept. 23, 1821. the tax list of Frederick Co. Va. from 1783-1794, contains the name of George Chamblin. His name appear for the first time on the tax list of Bourbon Co. Ky.  In 1795. He was married twice and had children by each wife. His children by an earlier marriage, (name of wife unknown) were: 1. Betsey Foster; 2. Polly Harper (given name duplicated – see below), who was born on April 28, 1778, (for further information see query 66, (DAVIS CHAMBLIN) in the issue of December 15, 1930 in this department). 4. Moses Chamblin who was the father of Nelson Chamblin and Baylis Chamblin of St. Louis, Missouri. Nelson Chamblin, just mentioned was the grandfather  of beautiful Nellie Hazeltine (Mrs. Frederick Caramore).

The said George Chamblin (first mentioned), and by his last wife, Frances ____ (maiden name unknown) the following named children. (a) William Chamblin who was married three times (see paragraph below for further information). (b) Dr. George Chamblin (name duplicated — see below), who died in New Orleans, La., on Feb. 13, 1820. The Draper Collection has a letter written by him from London, England., dated May 22, 1819 (c) James Chamblin, (estate settled in Bourbon Co., Ky. before 1826). (d) John Chamblin, (estate settled in Bourbon Co., Ky. before 1826). (e) Coleman F. Chamblin who was married twice and lived for a while with his first wife, America Vivion, in Boone Co., Ky. Their children were: Ann Chamblin; America V. Chamblin and Signoria Chamblin. His second wife was Eliza Lovering and their children were: George Chamblin; Mary Chamblin; Flavel Chamblin; Robert L. Chamblin. The said Coleman F. Chamblin died in Higginsville Missouri in 1857. (f) Dr. Braxton Winn Chamblin who was the Yooungest child and was born on March 16, 1805, and died on Jan. 21, 1865 in Boone County, key. He was a member of the Kentucky state legislature in 1859. He married his first wife, Margaret McClanahan, in Fayette Co. Ky. in 1832 and married his second wife, Elizabeth Love, in Boone Co., Ky. in 1844. (g) Polly (given name duplicated — see  above). (h) Mary Chamblin (will probated in 1824). (i) Lucy Chamblin whose estate was settled in Bourbon County, Ky. before 1826. (j) Nancy Chamblin who married, on Apr. 25, 1804, Stephen Johnson Winn of Clarke Co., Ky. (k) Frances Chamblin married Dr. Daniel A. Million Aug. 8, 1822. Their son Dr. John L. Million lived in Springfield, Illinois.

William Chamblin.(a) see above, was married three times. The issue by his first wife, Nancy Chamblin was: George Chamblin. He married second on March 10, 1811, Mary Ann Keas who was the daughter of Isaac Keas (of Clarke County, Kentucky), and his wife Mary. The issue of the said William Chamblin and his second wife, Mary Ann Chamblin nee Keas were: William Chamblin, Jr., Isaac Chamblin, and Mary Chamblin. He married third, on September 21, 1824, Isabella Richardson in Clarke County, Ky. Their issue as follows: John Latimer Chamblin Marquis Richardson Chamblin, Isabella Chamblin, Lucy Chamblin, and Henrietta Chamblin. _______ The said GEORGE CHAMBLIN (born 1748 and died 1821), first above mentioned, and his last wife FRANCES—(maiden name unknown) were members of the Bryan Station Baptist Church in Kentucky. DAVIS—CHAMBLIN—Wanted: The ancestral lines of the following named persons. MARY DAVIS was born July 18, 1778; married GEORGE CHAMBLIN, (1.), (born April 28, 1778); and lived in Frederick County, Virginia until 1815. They were living in Hampshire County, Virginia in 1820 and in 1831 they were in Jefferson County, Ohio where they lived until their deaths. Their children were: 1. French Chamblin who married Hannah Purcell. 2. Ellzey Chamblin who married Delilah Nixon and lived in Peoria, Illinois. 3. Samuel Chamblin who married Caroline Thornberry. 4. Thomas Chamblin who married Polly Lester. 5. George Chamlin (II.) (Note that this George Chamblin (II.) had later, a half-brother also named George), married first Drusilla Irwin and married second Frances Smith, 6. DAVIS—ADAMS—CORNELIUS—Wanted: Any information obtainable concerning the parents and ancestral lines of MARY (POLLY) DAVIS and her husband THOMAS ADAMS. They were married prior to 1811, as their daughter, ELIZABETH ADAMS, was born on July 20, 1811 in Christian Co., Kentucky. The said ELIZABETH ADAMS married BENJAMIN CORNELIUS on November 11, 1826, in Howard County, Missouri. The said MARY(POLLY) ADAMS nee Davis according to family traditions was in some way related to EX-PRESIDENT JEFFERSON DAVIS, C. S. A. who was a descendant of MORGAN DAVID (born 1622-23—died 1694-95). Where she was born; the names of her parents; and her brothers and sisters are unknown with the exception of a brother who was known as COL.  JOSEPH DAVIS who had a son named WILLIAM DAVIS. BEALE—WILSON—MacCRACKEN. Wanted: All information possible to be secured concerning CAPTAIN WILLIAM BEALE (name of wife unknown), who lived at Cambridge (now in Greenwood County formerly Edgefield District), South Carolina. He was a Revolutionary soldier. See Lossing’s “Field Book of the American Revolution”; “McCracken’s Seige (sic) of Ninety Six” and “Historical Selections on the Joseph Habersham Chapter,” D. A. R., Atlanta, Georgia, Vol. III, page 51.  His daughter, TABITHA BEALE, married a WILSON (either JAMES WILSON or WILLIAM WILSON); their daughter ELIZABETH married a MacCRACKEN (either JAMES MacCRACKEN or WILLIAM MacCRACKEN), and their daughter ELIZABETH  married BENJAMIN FARRAR EDDINGS of Tuscaloosa, Alabama in 1839.

(1) PATTON—POINTS—COWAN—BENNETT. —Wanted: Information desired concerning these North Carolina, Kentucky, and Indiana families. Data regarding ancestry and descendants desired, likewise all military service records. (a) JOHN MERCER PATTON, was living in North Carolina during the Revolution. Record of service desired. (b) ANDREW PATTON married MARY PATTON who was the daughter of JOHN and FANNY PATTON nee POINTS. (c) ANDREW DUNLAP PATTON married NANCY _________ in Nicholas County, Kentucky, in 1821 (d) DAVID PATTON married CLARA BENNETT and migrated to Indiana. (2) KOONCE: Wanted: Information desired concerning JORMAN (JARMIN) KOONCE, who, prior to the Civil War, lived in Somerville, Tennessee. Personal data and ancestral lines requested. Address (see below).

(3) BEAN—TROUP—Wanted: The ancestral lines of WILLIAM BEAN and SUSAN TROUP. They were married before 1820 and migrated from Union County, South Carolina, about 1837, to Alabama. She had a brother named Matthew Troup. Address (see below).

(4) McQUEEN (QUEEN) —JONES—COLLEY—CARSON—Wanted: Information regarding these North Carolina families. (a) WILLIAM McQUEEN, a Revolutionary soldier and a bugler, was permanently lamed by being shot through both knees, changed his name to WILLIAM QUEEN after the said war. He lived for a while in North Carolina, migrated to Georgia, and lived near Atlanta, in said state during the Civil War. (b) JOEL QUEEN married URSULA JONES. (c) OLIVE QUEEN who was born in 1821; married in 1842. DANIEL CARSON COLLEY, who was born in 1820. (d) DR. JOSEPH CARSON (COLLEY?) born April 6, 1847; married, in 1880, CLEMMIE DAVIS. QUERY FORTY-SEVEN

CALVIN—PEGRAM—Wanted: Any information concerning the descendants of DANIEL CALVIN, JEREMIAH CALVIN, and JAMES CALVIN who were Revolutionary soldiers from Virginia. Likewise the ancestors named CALVIN of SAMUEL TANNER CALVIN who came from Virginia, (probably from Petersburg, Va.), to Alabama in 1830. He married MARIAH MANSON PEGRAM in 1837. McKISSACK—HUDSON—Wanted: To correspond with any descendants of the McKISSACK and HUDSON families. THOMAS McKISSACK (born 1756) and enlisted in the Revolutionary war from Caswell County, North Carolina. He married, about 1780, MRS. LUCY EDWARDS (a widow) whose maiden name was HUDSON.  Their children were: 1. Rebecca McKissack, born 1782 and married Wilson Jones; 2. William McKissack born 1783, married first Eleanora Salade and married second Janet Thomson; 3. Spivy McKissack born 1785, married first Eliza Smiser and second Mrs. Jeffries; 4. ARCHIBALD McKISSACK born 1789 and married SUSAN HARRISON; 5. Susan McKissack born 1790 and married George Simmons. Query: Who were the parents of THOMAS McKISSACK?—MRS. LUCY McKISSACK, (wife of THOMAS McKISSACK, see above), was the widow of Isaac Edwards and they had a son named Isaac Edwards. READ (REED-REID)—Wanted: To correspond with (or secure information concerning) the descendants of JOHN READ, (born 1757—died 1817), and his wife, MARGARET READ nee ______, (born 1762—died 1829), who moved into Tennessee. They were among the earliest of pioneers in said state. The name was spelled READ in Virginia but was later spelled REED in Tennessee and Alabama. Their children were: 1. Robert Read (or Reed) who married Betsy Harvey; 2. Mary Read (or Reed); 3 Margaret Read (or Reed); 4. Daniel Read (of Reed) who married Martha Lyon; 5. Nancy Read (or Reed); 6. John Read (or Reed) who migrated to Missouri and Texas; 7. James Read (or Reed) who married Jane Norvell; 8. William Read (or Reed); 9. Carson Read (or Reed) who married Tranquilla Jenkins; 10. NORVELL—Wanted: Data concerning any or all of the following named persons—SPENCER NORVELL in 1770 married FRANCES HILL in Goochland Co., Virginia. He evidently was living in Albemarle Co., Virginia in 1773; served in the Revolutionary war and is presumed to have died in Amherst County, Virginia as his will was proved in said county in 1829. His son, JOHN P. NORVELL,  was born in Albemarle County, Virginia in 1773 migrated to Tennessee with his relatives, namely, the Hill, Maury, and DeGraffenried families, and was living in Giles County, Tennessee in 1820 with a wife and ten children. Among his children were: 1. James T. Norvell; 2 Samuel C. Norvell; 3. John (P.?) Norvell, Jr.; 4. Wesleyan Norvell; 5. Spencer Norvell; 6. Jane Norvell who married James Read; 7. A daughter who married William C. Mayfield. The said JOHN P. NORVELL, Sr., (see above), prior to 1829 migrated to Lauderdale County, Alabama as he married as his second wife, EDITH GIBSON, in Lauderdale County, Alabama, in 1829. QUERY THIRTY-TWO

ERWIN—DODSON—Wanted: Information concerning the ancestors and descendants of JOHN ERWIN (JOHN L. ERWIN) who was born in 1807 in North Carolina and migrated when a boy with his father and his father’s family to East Tennessee. The said JOHN  ERWIN (JOHN L. ERWIN) had several brothers and a sister and the names of three of his brothers were: James Erwin, William Erwin, and Joseph Erwin. He married twice in Tennessee and the name of his first wife was McMinn. Issue by this marriage was two children: a son named Campbell Erwin and daughter name unknown. The name of his wife in his second marriage was DODSON. There were six children in this marriage, (three boys and three girls), of whom HENRY C. ERWIN (my father) was the fourth child, and youngest son, and was born November 18th, 1848 in Cleveland, Bradley County, Tennessee. The said JOHN ERWIN (JOHN L. ERWIN) migrated from Tennessee to Cherokee County, Alabama in 1850 where he raised his family by his second wife. Information is especially desired concerning the parents, brothers and sisters of JOHN  ERWIN (JOHN L. ERWIN) who as above stated was born in 1807 in North Carolina and also regarding the children of his first marriage, namely Campbell Erwin who migrated west, raised a family and was drown (sic) in the Red River about 1880; and the daughter whose name is unknown, (at present), who married and also migrated west where her husband died and it is understood that she later returned to Tennessee. NANCY DAVIS (see above) was living in 1820 in Surry County, North Carolina. THOMAS LIGHTFOOT who was born in 1770 was living in Davidson County, Tennessee in 1792. He married SARAH ALLEN in said County in 1801. Their children were 1. Henry Cole Lightfoot born 1802, married Elizabeth Simmons. 2. John Frazier Lightfoot born 1805, married Maleana McKissack. 3. Narcissa W. Lightfoot born 1810, married John Miller. 4. Nancy Ann T. Lightfoot born 1812, married Asa Messenger. 5. Robert W. Lightfoot born 1815, married Adelia Reid. This family migrated to Lawrence County, Alabama in 1819. MRS. SARAH LIGHTFOOT  nee ALLEN was born in 1780 and was the daughter of DAVID ALLEN who was born in Elizabeth, (now Union County), New Jersey in 1758; migrated to North Carolina and enlisted in the Revolutionary War from Surry County, North Carolina. I.. Lightfoot, General Passenger Agent, Louisville and Nashville Railroad, at Louisville, Kentucky, you will very likely find that he is a descendant of the Davidson County, Tennessee, Lightfoot family. The above Mr. Lightfoot was formerly General Passenger Agent of the Nashville, Chattanooga and the St. Louis Railway with offices at Nashville, Tenn. and had resided in that city for many years.

HALE (HAILE HALLE) Wanted: Information regarding the names of the parents and wife of SHADRACH HALE, called Shad Hale. His family moved from Virginia into North Carolina (probably), then to Tennessee and Kentucky, later returning to Tennessee. He was related to the TURNER family and maybe to the BATTLE (BATTLES — BATT) family. He mentioned to his children that the names of Shadrach and Meshach were both used in his family. This family this family named HALE were related to the HENDERSON family. WILLIAM MADISON HALE, (son of SHAD HALE), married AMANDA JANE ROGERS in Sumter County, Alabama, about 1846. LUCINDA HALE, (daughter of SHADRACH HALE, see above), married ROBERT HENDERSON ROGERS (born 1796—died 1869) as his second wife. The said ROBERT HENDERSON ROGERS was father-in-law and brother-in-law of WILLIAM MADISON HALE, and he was also the son of the Revelation ELIJAH ROGERS (born 1774—died 1841) who married in 1794 CATHERINE CLACK who was the daughter of HON. SPENCER CLACK (born 1746—died 1832) and Mary BEAVERS (BEAVILL—BEAUVILLIERS) of Virginia and Sevier County, Tennessee. ROBERT HENDERSON ROGERS (see above) in served in the Creek War and was Sheriff of Sevier County, Tenn., and was shot through the lungs while trying to arrest a murderer. His first wife was MALINDA HENDERSON, who was a relative of his second wife LUCINDA HALE.  The children of ROBERT HENDERSON ROGERS and his first wife MALINDA ROGERS nee HENDERSON were: MARY CATHERINE ROGERS born in 1828; 2. AMANDA JANE ROGERS born in 1830 who married WILLIAM MADISON HALE; 3. MATILDA ANN ROGERS born in 1833. The parents of MALINDA ROGERS nee HENDERSON, (first wife of ROBERT HENDERSON ROGERS) (both above mentioned) lived in East Tennessee at one time. Any information about this family named HENDERSON would be appreciated. It is thought that MALINDA ROGERS nee HENDERSON was a granddaughter of JAMES HENDERSON and his wife who was the daughter of HUGH LAWSON. WILLIAM HENDERSON had a daughter CATHERINE HENDESON who married WILLIAM KENNON (CANNON) and their daughter, CYNTHIA KENNON (CANNON) married in 1819 CLACK ROGERS of Sevier County, Tenn. Who was an elder brother of ROBERT HENDERSON ROGERS (see above).
